I find it amazing that, as leaders move into increasingly more senior positions in an organization, they become more talkative. The best leaders in the world are great at creating dialogue by listening and will invite others to express themselves through questioning. And the secret of their successful communication lies in the “questioning.” When you reach the point in your communication ability to deliver an idea by asking questions and getting the listener to come up with the same idea, then you have reached the ‘master level!’ That is successful communication. I have often had sales conversations with a prospect where I had not once talked about a product or service but instead talked through questions to the prospect. And at the end, they would arrive at a place where they say something like, “How do we work together on this?”
