I talk a lot to leaders about never walking past “graffiti” – what I mean by graffiti is that in our office environments, we sometimes have “stuff” that nobody wants or needs. This could be for example: old samples, ancient PC’s, yellowing posters, etc… “stuff.” Often this “stuff” gets put into the corner of meeting rooms and everyone says: “we’ll deal with it later.” Well, later never comes and the things next you know, that “stuff” starts to multiply. I see it all the time when I go to a client office. The worst part is, when I ask about the piles of stuff in the corner of the board room, people will often say that it has been there for a while and it bothers them. Well then… GET RID OF IT! Clean it up. You will discover amazing things happen! You can even do it as a teamwork activity, getting everyone involved. People will start caring about the environment again. They won’t carelessly discard stuff they do not need anymore. People will start behave like they have a renewed purpose again. People will begin to take ownership, which is great for a productive team environment. It’s almost like a fresh start, or a spring clean up. But don’t wait until the Spring to do it! Do it now! You will be amazed!
