Disconnecting

This is HOW A LEADER… Disconnects from work and Reconnects with themselves:

True clarity of thinking comes from creating an uncluttered environment. Easy to say, hard to do in the connected world we live in.

When we can get there though, “Wow!” thoughts come flooding in. The trouble for a lot of us though is that when we disconnect (turn off or walk away from our technology), we are plagued with thoughts about “What am I missing that is potentially urgent?”

Guess what? Nothing is happening that cannot wait until you are back on line!

Think about the great ideas that you have in the shower. You don’t have your technology in the shower with you and you are not stressed (hopefully not anyway) about what vital email or post you are missing.

Here’s how I disconnect…

1. I don’t turn the iPhone, iPad or MacBook (Yes, I am fully Apple) off. That is too stressful. I simply leave it in my home office with the door closed.
2. I go for a walk, cut the grass, tend to the vegetable garden. I find that when I am doing something that is not strenuous (like working out with weights or running) that my mind wanders and gets into the “Creativity Zone” much faster!
3. I don’t force the flow. Telling yourself: “Ok, Bob, it is now time to think big thoughts,” is way too stressful. Getting into the Creativity Zone just happens on its own. Trust yourself.
