In business we often have to spend time on the road away from our loved ones and… our own bed. It is part of the job.
While on the road though, it is very easy to get off our routines. Eat too much. Drink too much. Stop exercising. Not get enough sleep… Then we have to put in a full day of work and perform at our peak.
I am very blessed that I get to travel and speak all over the world. In doing so, I have learned some basics to ensure I am able to perform at peak levels wherever I am.
Here’s my list:
- Switch my watch to the time zone I am going to be in the moment I sit down in my seat on the plane. And, never think about what time it is at home. I literally tell myself that this (the new time zone) is the one I am in.
- Consciously maintain a routine similar to what I do at home.
- Eat as healthy as I can. Three meals a day. Two snacks.
- Plan time for exercise. Even it means walking to and from the evening restaurant.
- In my hotel room and in bed for 7-8 hours sleep.
- Drink lots of water.
- Limit Alcohol.
What do you do when you are on the road to be at your best?
